As you have probably seen recently, I now have two 5-man cowboy posses ready to hit the tabletop:
They are both Black Scorpion sets from their Tombstone range (sets 3 and 4) back when they were made of metal. I have not picked up any of the newer resin sets, but from what I’ve seen online the quality is great. So expect me to get some of those sooner or later.
I intend to use these and future Old West minis with Warhammer Historical’s Legends of the Old West. Coupled with my GameCraft Old West buildings, whether the game is good or not, at least it’ll look pretty on the table. But I have a good feeling about the LotOW system.
I am very pleased with how all these cowboys turned out. The metal sculpts were just fine. I primed one of the sets in grey, and one in black. I’m not sure why. I only ever had one can of black primer, it cost way too much AND I prefer not to paint over black, so they are pretty unique among my miniatures.
A few weeks ago when I started working on the cowboys, I started with the grey-primed ones and had no problems. I found painting over the black primer took a little bit more work, so I will be sure to stick to grey, white or brown primers in the future, unless of course black is a useful colour to base a particular colour scheme with.
I don’t know how long it will be until we see these guys on the table, but I think I have enough interest among my regular opponents to play this. I just hope they don’t mind coming over to my place to play it, as it’ll be a couple of months before I get back to the store for Tuesday night gaming.
Well, I still haven’t decided what to paint next. I am in the middle of trying to sell off my Tomb Kings army, so I don’t think I will paint any of them unless it helps me get rid of them. I’ve got all of my Skaven on the table beside me, as I will probably use them until I buy Ogres. I’ve got a few Malifaux models that could use some paint, as well as a bunch of other random things that are primed and waiting.
I should know what I’m working on by tonight or tomorrow, so expect something up here soon. As usual, it will likely be as far removed from Old West as possible, as I tend to jump around systems, themes and scales between painting projects.
Thanks for reading.
