I’ve been in a bit of a hobby slump lately. It started as soon as I had finished the Bloody Reaver 2 weeks ago. In general, over the past couple of months, my focus has flowed back towards boardgaming. I often go through waves like this, with increased hobby activity and miniatures gaming, and then a switch to boardgames, and then back. This often happens when Andrew, my most frequent opponent and hobby muse, gets in a hobby slump as well. Sort of how women who spend a lot of time together….nevermind. Even last night, when I was supposed to be working on this post, I got sucked into playing FTL again. And again. And again. FTL, youtube, and fan-forums for Ogres, Bretonnians and Wood Elves have all been keeping me busy, and not painting.
So since finishing the Bloody Reaver, I’ve done minimal work on the terrain and tools for Dreadfleet. I drybrushed the terrain, so all I need is to paint the non-rock bits. I think actually playing the first scenario will help me want to paint more. Hopefully tomorrow night.
And now it’s Movember, the bane month for my wife, who hates me growing my facial hair, especially a moustache. But this is now the third year I have participated, and I will try and keep some progress going here. I’ll actually save more info for a post in the next day or two.
But I needed to mention Movember because it has helped me figure out what I’m painting next!
Always wanting to put a dent into those WIP projects of mine (of which there are many), I thought about working on my Old West stuff. I’ve got a bunch of GameCraft buildings and a couple gangs of cowboys, plus all of the Legends of the Old West books. And then I read the Paint the Target post on Lost Hemisphere, and it clicked: Movember…moustaches!
So, I am going to go through my lead and plastic pile and look for miniatures with moustaches. In fact, I have already nearly completed my first figure, Privateer’s Bloody Bradigan! Two nights ago he looked like this:
Last night, before working on him, he looked like this:
And now all he needs is some basing. I’ll have that ready for tomorrow, whence you can see this moustachio’d gentleman complete.
So that’s where I am at right now. Hopefully out of my little hobby slump. If worse comes to worse, I’m going to have to finally pick up that Ogre battalion! But for now, I’ve got some moustaches, cowboys and Old West buildings to work on.
Thanks for reading.
