Often my wife will offer, “I’ll give you a break, you go gaming.” And usually, I pass on it and stay home with the family. Tonight it was offered, and as I’ve been craving boardgaming like I used to do, I took her up on it and headed to Meeplemart. Now, it has been a long time since I made it out to a Thursday night. Months. Many months. I used to go every week, and then for a while it was every Tuesday (for minis) and Thursday (for boardgames), but then it quickly just became Tuesdays, as it worked better with my wife’s schedule and I have been on a long minis kick. But yeah, I’ve been hankering for boardgames again, and tonight I was happy to be able to play 5 games! Huzzah!
After the hellos and heys with some guys I haven’t seen or played with in months we took out Coloretto.
This little card game was once a pretty well-played game, back in the early days of Thursday night gaming. It’s light, quick and easy to figure out. And it’s got chameleons! Well, just as art, not actually in the gameplay. It is also the basis for one of my top boardgames, Zooloretto, which I can actually get my wife to play (which makes it GREAT!).
Next came Village.
It’s a worker placement game, which there are a million of out there. But it is interesting enough to be one of the better ones I have played, I think. At least, since it’s been so long since I’ve played multiple worker placement games, it sticks out enough to be good. Playing with Kevin, Steve and Randall made the experience all the better, I think. Good group of guys.
After that came Flash Point.
I think I’ve talked about this one before. As firefighters, we work together to save people and pets from a burning house before the structure crumbles around us, or too many victims die. We managed to win the game, although we did lose a few brave firefighters (and a cat! 😦 ) along the way. I quite enjoy this game. I’d like to play this some more. I’d also like to pick up the expansions for it, if they become properly available again.
Next was Kingdom Builder.
I believe I have talked about this one before too. My interest in it continues to drop, sadly. I think I’ll put it up on the chopping block, to be honest. And not just because I misread a score card and lost horribly, I swear 🙂 The rules and pretty components are simple, which I like, it’s just…meh.
Well, lastly came FFG’s new LCG, Netrunner.
I won’t say it’s the best card game out there, but I definitely quite enjoyed it. In fact, it’s on my to-buy list, but with the caveat that I’ll wait until someone sells it for cheaper than list. I might even wait until after the Data Packs are released, so I’ll have more than just a core set to deck build from. We shall see. I should probably save my money for the upcoming Star Wars LCG, though, no? 🙂
And that was my night! A big thanks to my wife for letting me out of the house for another night this week. It is much appreciated, and I quite enjoyed it. I hope I can get to another Thursday night ASAP, even if I have to forgo more minis nights. Oh, and thanks to boardgamegeek for the images.
This reminds me, I should probably post up some progress on our Descent campaign. Hrm.
Thanks for reading.
