Knowing that this week is going to be light on gaming I decided to layout my recently acquired (through the TABSCon Math Trade run on BGG) Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game. This Space Marine vs. Genestealer card game is playable solo, which is a bonus to the game. I have yet to try the real Space Hulk game, but if it’s anywhere near as dire for the Marines as this game is…yeesh!
Maybe not for this play, but in the future I am definitely going to write a narrative After Action Report. This game is simply cinematic, start to finish. This play went something like this:
A 6-man Space Marine team was sent into the the hulk of the Sin of Damnation. Already in the first room (the Void Lock), the marines met with some tough opposition, and both Brother Scipio and Sergeant Lorenzo fell. But the team moved on, crushing some Genestealers in the Door on the way through to the Teleportarium. There, the swarms were growing, so they made a quick sprint to get out of there. It was do-or-die, and without Support from their fellows they were doomed. As the four marines ran, Brother Deino was nabbed by some Genestealers and taken down. The rest made it out alive, into the Hibernation Cluster. Here, Brother Noctis showed his Dead Aim and took out 3 Genestealers that were about to grab Sergeant Gideon. They quickly made it through the door to the final chamber, clearly the Genestealer’s Lair. As swarms of the aliens followed them through, they saw before them two giant creatures, the Brood Lords. They knew their fates were sealed. As they formed a desperate triangle of human defiance, Sergeant Gideon was outnumbered and taken down. But Brother Noctis and Lexicanium Calistarius mounted a quick Rescue of their fallen leader. They managed to save him, but only momentarily as one of the Brood Lords grabbed him and ripped him in half. The other Brood Lord, with an amassed swarm of Genestealers at his feet, yanked Brother Noctis up and with one swift and crunchy bite, decapitated him. Calistarius, the sole surviving member of the team, backed up slowly into a corner, firing his bolter and sending blasts of his psychic power at the foe. Yet slowly but surely the aliens scrambled over their fallen hivemates, closer, closer to the space marine.

No, this was not the narrative AAR I said I would write, but this relates some of the action that the team had to deal with. I’ll play solo again soon and take notes to write a nice, juicy report.
It’s a brutal, bloody game for the marines. And it plays pretty quickly, too. Whew, gotta get this tabled with more players.
Thanks for reading!
