I stopped by Meeplemart today to pick up my newly-arrived House Hawkwood starter fleet. w00t! I’m totally excited to get them ready and on the table for some space battles. We’re still waiting for Andrew’s House Decados fleet to arrive, but that should be soon. The sooner the better.
So, I’ve opened up the box, laid out the ships, and took some quick pics.
Here we have a box size comparison with my other new fleet, the Terrans from Firestorm Armada. What a difference in scale, my goodness. Wait until I take ship comparison photos: the smallest ship (Frigate) in Firestorm Armada is just a touch smaller than the 4th biggest ship (Destroyer) in Noble Armada! Man.
Here are all the ships laid out, with the Fighters in the front and the Destroyers in the back. As I progress with the painting of the fleet I’ll post more pics with more details. As well, when playing the game commences, I’ll talk more about the differences in the fleet.
And lastly, here is a close-up of the ships. Oooh, purdy.
Some initial thoughts on the product:
The Box: It’s a good size for the fleet you’re getting, especially with how much room is taken up with the stands alone. I do need to voice a complaint, though, about the box wrapping. Because of the way the sleeve was glued onto the box, I had to rip through it. This is disappointing, as I would have liked to keep the otherwise pretty sleeve intact.
The Scale: These ships are small! I know these might be standard, or even bigger than some scales, but I’m just not used to ships of this size. This isn’t a bad thing, just different for me.
The Ships: Generally, they look quite good. I chose House Hawkwood as my (first?) faction purely from looks. Getting the models in-hand, I am not disappointed at all. At first glance, the casting seems to be great. Just minor flash here and there, except for the large piece attached to the top of the Light Carrier. Otherwise, they won’t need much work, I don’t think.
That’s it for now. I am hoping to get them cleaned and ready for priming by tomorrow, so whenever the weather is good enough, I’ll take both fleets out for a spray. I should be trying the game out on Tuesday, at least a little run-through with Andrew to get the basics down. We both enjoyed the Babylon 5 version of A Call to Arms, and while I prefer that setting over this one, I have a feeling Noble Armada is going to be great. As well as a filler until A Call to Arms: Star Fleet arrives 🙂
