Today I managed to prime up 9 Legionaries and 4 command models for the Roman army. These are Wargames Factory minis from their (awesome) Caesar’s Legions box. This box has the potential to make the 36 Medium Infantry and 8 Light Bow (with parts from the Numidians pack) that I need, with 4 guys left over, who will probably be temporary Leaders until I find suitable (read: affordable) alternatives.
I went with Krylon brown primer, which I enjoyed using previously on my Skaven miniatures. After painting over white primer on my Heavy Gear Blitz units, I remembered how much I preferred the brown primer. Since I can’t find Krylon black primer, and Citadel black primer is something silly like 4 times as much as the Krylon cans, I either tend to use Krylon brown, gray or white. I went with brown for this initial batch, and I think it will turn out alright.
In fact, I’m going to start working on them tonight! I’m pretty sure I’ve got the colours ready. There aren’t many of them, after all.
I want to try dipping these guys, as opposed to GW washing them. I’ve got a can of, of course, Army Painter Quickshade (medium, I think?) that has been sitting here since last year, just waiting to be used. I never tried it on any of my Warhammer stuff, so I think it’s about time I tested it. I’ll need to buy a can of anti-shine, though. I think it’ll be good.
After this bunch of dudes, I’ll probably work on some of the Numidians, who will actually end up being the Light Infantry and Sling units. I also have a set of sprues of Gauls or Germans or something, I forget which, that came as a free sample when I ordered from Wargames Factory a while back. They look even better than the Romans (which I really like so far), and are going to make up a large chunk of the guys I put together for the Barbarian army, as there are 36 Warriors.
I’m going to build according to necessity. My first scenario that I’m going to work on will be Sotium (yes, just like Kevin did!), unless I change my mind at some point. That reminds me, I should go through the scenarios again and finish figuring out what I need for each. Then I can be sure which I’ll start with.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I just might have another update soon with some of these guys painted. Wish me luck!
