If you’re one of the cool kids and follow this and/or my group blog, A Tale of Gamers, you’ll know that we’ve decided to put Warhammer Fantasy on hold and try some new/other games. I previously listed a bunch of games that might take its place. Well, the winner is…
Heavy Gear Blitz!
Heavy Gear Blitz! is a tabletop miniatures skirmish game set on a far away planet in a far away time. Giant mechs, called Gears, face off against each other on the planet Terra Nova.
Yadda yadda. You can learn more about the game around the net, including the main site at www.dp9.com.
The two games that were at the top of the list were Alkemy and Heavy Gear. We are actually going to be playing Alkemy as well, but right now our focus is on Heavy Gear, as we build, paint and play our Starter boxes that we (Andrew, Rob and myself) have picked up.
Why did Heavy Gear win? How can 20+ft. mechs shooting the gizmos out of each other not win?
The models are awesome-looking; the game is 10-12mm which is new for us; and it’s a Canadian-made game.
All these factors made it easy to pick up a Starter each. I’m going with the South, as I liked the snake-themed names. Andrew went with the P.R.D.F. and Rob took the North.
I’m nearing completion of building the two cadres (units) in my Starter. As soon as that’s done I will post some pictures and thoughts on the building part of this game.
We have already tried a couple of single-unit learning games. After another one or two I will have some things to say about the game.
Keep watching this and the Tale of Gamers blogs for more info as we go along.
