Stormsmiths – Complete!

I did a mad rush tonight to finally get these guys finished.

While they still need a couple of touch-ups and of course their bases (again, haven’t decided on this yet), they are otherwise complete!

Done. Done. Done.

I’ll bring them out on Tuesday and see if I can’t get a couple of better pictures.

They’re tabletop quality.  Nothing special, but better than prepaints   This is usually all I ask for in my miniatures.

Here’s a rundown of what I used:

• Cygnar Blue Highlight coat, Asurmen Blue wash, Meredius Blue trim/lining, Quick Silver buttons (all the same for gauntlet tops).
• Rucksack Tan undercoat and gauntlet padding, Ogryn Flesh wash.
• Gun Corps Brown boots and straps, Ogryn Flesh wash.
• Bootstrap Leather shoulder pad basecoat, Molten Bronze highlight.
• Trollblood Highlightpants with watered-down Asurmen Blue wash.
• Quick Silver staff with washes of Badab Black (handle) and Ogryn Flesh (ball); Meredius Blue and Arcane Blue ball details.
• Midlund Flesh skin, Coal Black goggles; hair a variety of white, Trollblood Highlight and Badab Black wash.

These are the colours I will be using across my Cygnar army as it grows.  I’ll probably get Nemo soon so I can have a ‘caster.  A few more models to go, and I can start playing my planned force.  It’s not a top priority for me, which is why I’m not rushing out to get them bougth and completed.  Eventually.

Anyway, I can now continue working on the Old West buildings.  I’m going to put these guys on the shelf and probably bring down Lilith’s brood to finish up and either play or sell.

Workbench Update – Stormsmiths, Old West Buildings

Not only did I finish (sans gold shine) my Imperial Armada starter this week, but I also put the finishing touches (sans gold shine) on my Empire Fire Wizard for WHFB.

Admittedly, he didn’t have much left to be finished, but I’m glad he’s done.  He’s my first Empire model that is complete, which is sad since I’ve been playing Empire since last May.  Our WHFB Tale of Gamers challenge faltering, stalling and ceasing didn’t help with completion.  Neither did picking up Heavy Gear Blitz with Andrew and Rob…which we proceeded to not actually play.  I may try and convince Andrew to make sure his starter for that is built, and we can try it one of these Tuesdays.

Anyway, I digress.  What’s on the workbench right now?

Stormsmiths

Yeah, these guys are still waiting, but they’ll get their chance now that the FF models are done.  In fact, they are both sitting right here, beside the little pots of paint that I need to paint them.  Now that’s preparation!  You can even see their painted compatriot urging them on in the background.

Old West Buildings

These beauties are in the same state as they were last weekend, as it was only yesterday that I picked up the other colours I need to paint them. But now that I have them, they’re going to get done.  The brown I put on them worked quite well, actually, so hopefully the other colours go on the same.  I’m also hoping the colours I picked up are going to look good.  If not, they only cost $1,and I can  always get a few other shades of the colours I got.  You can see the paints newest paints in the picture here.  They are “DecoArt Crafter’s Acrylics.”  Look for an update on these in the coming days.

That’s all that is actively being worked on right now.  I’m going to focus on these until they are done, and then I can move on.  To what?  Stay tuned to find out!

Stormsmith #1 – Nearly There!

Hair, goggles, buttons and globe glowy bits and he’s done!

Well, and the base, but as I still don’t know how I’m going to base this up-and-coming Cygnar force, I’m going to leave it for now.

Stormsmith Coming Along Nicely

So here’s where I’m at with the Stormsmith.

I’ve finished laying down all of the base colours, so now it’s shade and highlight time.  Up to this point I’ve used:

• Cygnar Blue Highlight: coat
• Rucksack Tan: padding under coat and gloves
• Quicksilver: lightning rod
• Gun Corps Brown: boots, belt, straps (not shown)
• Trollblood Highlight: pants
• Bootstrap Leather: shoulder pad basecoat
• Meredius Blue: trim on coat and gauntlet things (not shown)

I actually fell asleep early last night (pay back for mocking my wife the other night for doing the same) so I didn’t manage to get anything else done.  Boo.  Tonight I’ll do some more.  I can probably get all of the detailing done tonight, and then start the shading.  Highlights by tomorrow, and voila!  Then on to the other two.  Or that Space Marine sitting on me desk.

I Just Couldn’t Help Myself

While waiting for an Asurmen Blue wash to dry on the Arquebusiers, the Stormsmiths were calling to me.  “Paint us, Justin! Paint us!”

So I gave in, and started working on one of the ‘smiths.

As you can see, just a couple of areas done so far.  I didn’t want to totally ignore the Arquebusiers who are nearly finished (tonight?).

You can also see a Firefly Light Warjack that I started a few months ago.  He’s nearly done, just some touch-ups where the brass got on the blue or metal.  Like the Firefly, I’m pretty much keeping to the standard Cygnar colour scheme.  Same will go for the rest of Project: Lightning Strike.  Yes…I am now giving my projects cool-as-heck codenames.  Maybe I should call it Operation Lightning Strike instead? Hrm.

Oh, and I think we can all agree that this whole distraction is Loy’s fault.  Thanks Loy.

As If I Didn’t Have Enough To Paint – Thanks Loy!

Seriously, Loy, c’mon!

Knowing that a Nemo-led, Lightning-themed Cygnar force is my future goal for Warmachine, Loy handed over these Stormsmiths to me on Tuesday.  They are already primed, so they’re just waiting to get some paint on them.  I will probably attempt these guys in between the Arquebusiers and the other Freebooter’s Fate figures I have.
