TGN and Gamer Distraction Syndrome

I can’t exactly say how many times a day I check TGN and the TGN Blog Network, but I’m going to say half-a-dozen or more sounds about right. 

Which really dangerous, since I openly admit to having Gamer Distraction Syndrome.  I used to call this Gamer ADD, but after reading a quick little update on Zac’s Gaming Blog, I’ve decided to start using his term, GDS, from now on.

And why is this so pertinent right now?  Well, even though I am in the middle of a WHFB Tale of Gamers challenge, I…

• purchased the $10 Wargods of Aegyptus rules from Crocodile Games
• have planned a Nemo-led, lightning-themed Cygnar force for Warmachine
• have gotten very interested in a Gator force for Hordes
• decided to pick up Hotz ArtWorks’ Command Gaming Mat so I can 3D-ify C&C: Ancients (finally)
• am eager to get into Heavy Gear Blitz as our mech game of choice
• have distracted myself with numerous other gaming goodies

And this is why TGN is both the boon and bane of gamers like me.  If not for their efforts I would not know about most of the comings and goings of the hobby world…which may be a good thing, considering my GDS!

But I, like many, will help support them in their fundraiser to help thank them for all of their good work!

A Tale of Gamers Begins

Today marks the beginning of a local Tale of Gamers challenge.  I’ve encouraged four other guys to join me in a build/paint/play journey through Warhammer Fantasy.

We’ve got: Myself (Justin) with Empire.  Andrew with Tomb Kings.  Rob with Dwarfs.  Loy with Dark Elves.  And Ilan with Warriors of Chaos.

Awesome?  You bet.

We’re technically starting today, but only because I’ve got a baby arriving shortly.  Officially we’re starting on the 15th, as that’s when Ilan can really start.  Regardless, we are going at a pace hopefully slow enough to let everyone keep up but quick enough that we can get some great games with fully-painted armies after just a few months.

Exact details are not finalised, but it looks like we are going to go like this:  Starting today and ending June 30 we’ve got Phase One, where we end at 1000 points of painted models.  That’s two months, which will hopefully be enough for at least middle-stage painted armies.  We don’t need all the finishing details complete, but we want painted models on the table.  If it’s not painted, it’s not welcome.  Phase Two is a month long, ending July 31 and will be 1250 points.  Since it’s the whole month for 250 points we’re hoping to see things bought but not finished/used in the first phase hitting the table.  And Phase Three finishes up at the end of August at 1500 points.  Along the way we will have regular, probably weekly, recaps that will either be posted here or at another blog.  We’re still working on those details, figuring out if everyone should post, or just send their stuff to one person.

Either way, details are not set in stone and if we have to change the pace, we will.

But we’re all looking forward to getting this thing started.  And in honour of the first day I picked up an Empire army book, Battalion, a Cannon/Mortar and Pistoliers, to go with the Battle Wizards and General/BSB kit (thanks Andrew!) I already had.  Here’s a look at what I’ll be working on over the next couple of months:
